Press release:

Alternative pop and experimental electronic artist 2020k (RJ Kozain) returns with a loud, confrontational new single, “Interactive,” accompanied by an even more abrasive B-side “Acting Up, Acting Out (Snugglzs Remix).” Out worldwide on June 5th, 2026 through Roc Nation Distribution, the release marks 2020k’s first output of original music as an independent artist since 2016.

With noisy, urgent production and emotionally charged lyricism, “Interactive” explores the duality of intimacy and defiance through a lens of Queer love. References to Matthew Shepard anchor the song’s understanding of community and connection becoming an antidote to oppressive forces and Anti-Queer violence. “This is what we wanted, this is love / This is what we needed under God,” Kozain sings over frantic arpeggiators and off-kilter percussion.

Its counterpart, “Acting Up, Acting Out (Snugglzs Remix),” turns camp on its head with an autotuned satire about contemporary identity politics and gender expression. Pulling no punches, the B-side challenges the very concept of equality with unapologetic candor, transforming the subtle critique of “Interactive” into a polemic.

The arrival of this new single follows a transformative decade for Kozain, who entered a decade-long recording hiatus after facing serious health challenges, including post-concussion syndrome and a cancer diagnosis. Fully cleared and in remission, 2020k’s return to music carries a renewed sense of purpose.

Kozain shares: “‘Interactive’ has been on my hard drive since 2014, but there was a long period where creating anything just wasn’t possible because of my health. I certainly don’t take for granted having the opportunity to speak up now, especially during this harrowing point in history.”

Outside of 2020k, Kozain’s work is rooted in Pittsburgh’s audio community. Since 2023, they’ve served as a Technical Coordinator at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall and taught with Tech25, a nonprofit that trains youth and adults interested in live event production, particularly those from underserved backgrounds.

With “Interactive,” 2020k reemerges as an artist who uses their technical training in electronic music to interrogate the realities of contemporary lived experience—pushing buttons both literal and metaphorical. The song is part of a larger album, titled Will Not False My Identity, which is slated for release in 2027. The rollout for “Interactive” reflects a tiered release strategy designed to engage core supporters and indie forward outlets first.
